The western Liuqiu Archery Pavilion, known as the Xiao Gong Temple, enshrines the deity Zhong Kui. The shrine has a legendary past: over a hundred years ago, the homes in the Xinju Village frequently caught fire without cause. The villagers invited an elderly woman from the Liuqiu Guangfu Temple to investigate. Following her guidance, the village was identified as a “special hot stove pit,” requiring the worship of the Great Demon-Defeating Emperor to avert disasters and lift misfortunes.
