The old overseas Chinese market was rebuilt in situ due to its aging structure and was completed and reopened in May 2012 under the new name, "Tonggang Fish Harbor Seafood Direct Sales Center." This modernization presents a more contemporary and culturally distinctive seafood market that aims to enhance the regional fishing industry and stimulate local tourism. The new direct sales center covers a vast area of nearly 1,500 ping, featuring over 400 stalls offering a dazzling array of fresh and lively seafood. It not only matches the scale of a full-fledged seafood department store but also retains the friendly atmosphere of a traditional market, making it the largest seafood retail market in Pingtung County. The center currently includes sections for fresh fish, raw and cooked foods, seafood specialties, and gourmet food stalls.
