Stone Si Lo Forest is located at the foot of the Alishan Mountains, nestled on the Tongtou Mountain in Zhongpu Township, Chiayi County. This secret forest in Chiayi spans over 30 hectares and is classified as a nearby natural ecological zone. Its elevation ranges from 300 to 600 meters. The entire area is a subtropical broadleaf forest, dense and lush along the banks of Shi Long Creek.
The park boasts a diverse and abundant array of ecological resources. Common plants include a variety of ground-cover species, ferns, lotus of the god of mercy, penstemons, paulownia, peachheart, camphor, banyan, and more. The area is also home to endangered birds such as the large-billed crow, purple-winged lark, and the five-colored bird, all of which can be observed along the hiking trails. Another notable feature of the park is that its landmarks are all marked by stone carvings. For every 500 meters of ascent, a stone marker indicates the elevation and provides information about the ecological distribution of the area.
The forest belt is a subtropical broadleaf forest. Its rich ecological resources support biodiversity, including ground-cover plants, ferns, penstemons, Taiwan oaks, mahogany, peachheart, camphor, banyan, azaleas, dragonboat flower, and many other plants. Birds such as hawks, the Taiwan blue magpie, tree magpies, green-eye, black-crowned lark, scarlet robin, small crested shrike, and the five-colored bird are also present. The hiking trail is paved with logs, and the forest scenery changes naturally along the way. Interpretive signs are set up to help visitors learn about nature. As you walk down the trail, surprises abound; with attentive observation, you are sure to gain a great deal.
