台東縣成功鎮新村路25號
The Amis Cultural and Folklore Center is located adjacent to the headquarters of the East District Office in Duleru. The site spans approximately 2 hectares and features an outdoor performance plaza, an outdoor viewing area accommodating 2,000 people, an archery experience zone, and traditional Amis dwellings. Currently operated by the Amis Gapang Band, the center offers visitors thrilling archery opportunities, DIY crafting of traditional Amis beadwear and musical instruments like the nose flute, as well as the chance to enjoy traditional Amis singing and dance performances. It is not only a prime destination for experiencing Amis culture, but also an ideal family-friendly attraction for leisure and recreation. The Amis Cultural and Folklore Center was completed in November 1995 (the 84th year of the Republic of China). Its primary structures—the ancestral house and traditional residential buildings—were based on hand-drawn sketches originally recorded by Japanese ethnologist Tetsuzo Sōsaku during an October 1943 (the 32nd year of the Republic of China) field survey in the Guanfu Township of Hualien County. These architectural designs mimic the traditional priest’s dwelling of the Tabaoang Subgroup in Hualien. A visit here provides insight into the distinct architectural culture of the Amis people. Beyond exploring the unique buildings and understanding Amis architectural aesthetics, the center also showcases tribal artifacts exhibitions, handcrafted souvenirs, local specialties, and food services. Be sure not to miss the scheduled free performances. The resounding songs are accompanied by traditional Amis instruments such as the gapang (bamboo bell) and the nose flute. This vivid display captures the indigenous essence of Amis musical heritage. If you have the chance to visit again, make time to catch a performance by the Amis Gapang Band!
