Smagus, also known as "The Tribe of God," is located in the northeastern part of Taiwan, within the misty region, at an altitude of approximately 1600 meters. Although the area around the tribe has been developed, it takes only two hours to reach the pristine forest, which is also the hometown of cypress trees.
1975 was a significant year for Smagus, as it marked the introduction of electricity to the tribe. In 1995, the Smagus Development Association was established, with a mission to create a community that coexists with nature. The association built a church, homestays, and a tribe classroom, with a focus on preserving the Atayal culture.
When visiting Smagus, leave your worldly worries behind and immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere. Listen to the gentle sounds of waterfalls and mountain streams, and marvel at the majestic ancient cypress trees that have stood tall for millennia.
