As the third-largest station in Kaohsiung, next only to Kaohsiung Station and New Zuoying Station, Fengshan Railway Station was once the most important railway station in Kaohsiung County before the merger of Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City. The history of Fengshan Railway Station dates back to 1907, when it was constructed by the Office of the Governor-General of Taiwan's Railway Department. Initially, it mainly served as a transportation hub for agricultural products and military logistics, witnessing the economic development and historical transformation of Fengshan. From the Japanese colonial era to the present, Fengshan Railway Station has not only accompanied the people of Fengshan for over a century but has also undergone multiple renovations and transformations, progressing from a traditional train station and military logistics center to today's modernized station. With the advancement of underground railway construction, Fengshan Railway Station marks the arrival of a new era, evolving not only into a transportation hub, but also into a modern station integrating commercial facilities, public spaces, and green areas. After the underground railway was completed, the old tracks at Fengshan Railway Station no longer disrupted the north-south flow of the city, but instead gave rise to a brand new station building and surrounding environmental planning. The newly built Fengshan Sky City draws its design inspiration from the Fengshan Ancient City, incorporating historical elements such as the North Gate’s old site, city wall fortress, and the curved gable roof of Fengyi Academy to re-create the bustling streetscape of the old city. The internal station space features expansive open areas and green walkways, where passengers can stop to rest and experience the urban scenery of history and modernity intertwined. In the future, Fengshan Sky City will become a new tourism landmark for Fengshan, offering more convenient travel for locals while being integrated with modern urban planning to create a vibrant public space. Although current development of the commercial area is still under recruitment of merchants, with detailed brand and facility plans to be further confirmed, Fengshan Railway Station has already entered a new phase of development, standing as a vital gateway to southern Kaohsiung, and holding expectations for delivering many more possibilities in the future.
