Before entering Lin Family Historic House located in Dayukeng Village, Guanyin District, what first catches the eye is a straw doll made of straw and with a gourd for its nose, a masterpiece by the owner, Lin Jin-tang. All the oxen figures, human dummies, and traditional bamboo irrigation waterwheels on display in the garden are the master’s handiwork. The 7-mu (approximately 7 hectares) lotus field, recreation area, gourded veranda, and historic house form the main exhibition space, focusing on lotus appreciation and the sale of related products. From June to October, sunflowers and Costus lanceolatus are also blooming to admire. This Lin Family Historic House is a hundred-year-old architectural relic with four wings arranged around a central hall, and its vintage charm is captivating. Following the scent of lotus blossoms, a clay-pot path, red-brick archway, fluttering straw dolls amidst golden grasslands, and verdant green rice fields evoke memories of rural life in early Republican era Taiwan. The Lin descendants, who meticulously preserve the historic site, have created a local cultural museum within the house to introduce artifacts through professional guided tours, integrating education and leisure. A gift shop is also available near the site, offering delicacies including lotus seed ice cream, lotus tea, sunflower ice cream, lotus seed cakes, stone lotus jelly, and lotus jelly. The recreation area features a pond with lotus blossoms and ducks, where visitors can savor lotus seed ice while admiring the flowers and watching flocks of ducks play water, immersing themselves in rural simplicity. Adjacent to the recreational area is a veranda cultivating melons, grapes, and luffa, leading further to thousands of square meters of lotus fields. The ancient house, a century-old Minnan-style triple courtyard architecture, is adorned with antique furniture and farming tools depicting traditional rural life, lotus ecology, and applications, exuding profound rustic charm. On the way back, visitors can conveniently purchase fresh lotus seeds, perfumed lotus tea, lotus root, and lotus root flour as both gifts and personal souvenirs.
