Mt. Yabao is located to the south of the administrative office of Shei-Pa National Park. The shape of the mountain resembles a giant eagle poised for flight. In the Hakka language, "yabao" means "old eagle." The mountain is located near the southern end of Wenshui Stream and Qing'an. The highest point on the mountain is 910 meters above sea level. It is situated at the northern end of the Malabong Mountain Range. The strata in the mountain range are tilted towards the west. The shape of the mountain has been eroded unevenly, taking on a form of a warped anticline with steep slopes on the eastern side and gently sloping on the western side. This type of terrain is one of the most well-known warped anticline mountain ridges in Taiwan. The strata of Mt. Yabao belong geologically to the Gwan-Dao Mountain sandstone formation. This sandstone contains a high amount of calcium and is very hard. The rock strata are rugged and protruding, resembling a giant eagle spreading its wings. The imposing appearance of the mountain is breathtaking. Local villagers used to refer to the mountain as Mt. Yabao.
