Shuilí Township was once a major center for Taiwan's timber industry. In 1958, the National Taiwan University Experimental Forest Management Office established a wood utilization training factory in Shuilí, which aimed to provide a place for students of the university's forestry department to conduct experiments, research, and practical training in wood processing, furniture making, and wood product manufacturing. In 2009, the Wood Utilization and Product Exhibition Center was established to showcase the achievements of the factory and highlight the significant role of Shuilí Township in Taiwan's forestry development history. This has made Shuilí Township another stop for tourists visiting Sun Moon Lake, after Checheng and Shei-Hei.
