Qingtian Gang grassland, also known as the "Valley of the Sun," is located in the central area of the Daitun Mountain range, between Zhuzishan, Qigu Mountain, Ding Mountain, and Huangzui Mountain. The terrain is flat, formed by terraces from the lava of Zhugao Mountain. During the Japanese occupation, the Japanese set up the Dalingchi pasture here for tea planting and grazing purposes. After the retrocession of Taiwan, the government established the Yangming Mountain pasture based on the original plan of the Dalingchi pasture, including the area of Qingtian Gang and Lengshuikeng.
After the city of Taipei was reorganized as a special municipality, this pasture came under the management of the Taipei City Agricultural Association. Now, the cattle seen on Qingtian Gang are raised by farmers from Beitou, Shilin, and Jinshan areas. Qingtian Gang has a flat terrain with vast grasslands, lush green grass, and is the best natural classroom for observing grassland landscapes. The green, rolling grass slopes and the path surrounded by rounded, low shrubs are impressive and have become the most popular place for spring outings in Yangming Mountain National Park.
