Taichung Metropolitan Park is located on the Dadu Mountain Plateau in Taichung City, covering an area of 88 hectares. Officially opened to the public on October 28, 2000, it is the second large-scale urban green park completed after the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park. The park is situated along the ridgeline of the Dadu Mountain Plateau, with a vast area and very close to the plateau’s highest point (310 meters above sea level), offering expansive views and magnificent scenery. Looking eastward, visitors can overlook the Taichung Basin and take in the beautiful cityscape of Taichung. On the west side, the landscape is entirely different—the distant Taiwan Strait is clearly visible, with ships coming and going, and the Taichung Power Plant and Taichung Port lie at your feet. The establishment of Taichung Metropolitan Park plays a crucial role in preserving the unique natural landscape and environment of the Dadu Mountain Plateau. It also provides residents of the greater Taichung metropolitan area with a convenient place to connect with nature and enjoy leisure activities. Additionally, it serves as a habitat for wildlife and plants, fulfilling an important function in maintaining biodiversity. Since its opening, Taichung Metropolitan Park has become a key destination for public recreation. The park’s vegetation has gradually adapted to the local environment and is growing steadily. As the plants flourish, the diversity of animals and insects in the area has increased. This book guides readers through the geography and cultural history of the Dadu Mountain Plateau, introduces the park’s natural resources, scenic features, facilities, and suggested itineraries, allowing the park’s treasures to become a shared resource for all.
