Shilin Cixian Temple, also known as Shilin Mazu Temple, is dedicated to the Heavenly Mother. It is located within the famous Shilin Night Market. The original name of Cixian Temple was Tianhou Temple, built in 1796 (the first year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty) by He Jintang, the landowner. In 1859 (the ninth year of Xianfeng), the Zhangquan faction clash occurred, and Zilan Street was also affected and burned down. Tianhou Temple was also destroyed by fire. After the old street was burned down, the scholar-official Pan Yongqing strongly advocated moving and rebuilding a new street, which was approved by most of the local residents. Therefore, a new street was built at Xiaoshulin, which is today's Shilin New Street. At the same time, the central area of the street was planned as the temple site, which is now the location of Cixian Temple. Cixian Temple is a temple with a layout of two halls, two corridors, and two wing halls, forming five courtyards. The two halls are connected by an overpass corridor, making it a typical Southern Fujian style temple. The roof of the Sanchuandian Hall of the first hall is a hip roof with two eaves, also known as the "prince's building" style. The single coiled dragon octagonal column in the central door of the main hall was made during the Guangxu period. The Qilin blocks on both sides are works from 1828. The colorful paintings of the palace maidens on the doors and the door gods, Weichi Gong and Qin Shubao, are extremely delicate, and are works of the famous modern craftsman Chen Yufeng. Next to the main hall, there is a stone wall depicting the old street of Shilin, allowing people to reminisce about the past appearance of Shilin's streets.
