Dadaocheng Cisheng Temple

2017-07-05
台北市大同區保安街49巷17號
Dadaocheng Cisheng Temple, commonly known as Dadaocheng Mazu Temple, enshrines the Heavenly Mother, commonly called Mazu or Tianhou, the guardian deity of seafaring. It is one of the three major temples in Dadaocheng, along with Fazhu Temple and Xiahai Chenghuang Temple.   The couplet on the main gate reads: "The first gate opens, the Guanyin Mountain is majestic, thousands of boats gather, the water of Kui Mansion shines." It indicates the changes in the location of Cisheng Temple from past to present. In the fifth year of the Tongzhi era (1866 AD), Cisheng Temple was originally built at the intersection of Xining North Road and Minsheng West Road today. The temple's front was once the trade ferry dock, offering a view of the Daan River flowing from south to north, with Guanyin Mountain in Ba Li lying across the right front of the temple. In 1910, when the Japanese authorities implemented urban reforms, the temple was demolished. Local people from the Tong'an area raised funds to relocate it to its current location on Yanping North Road, and rebuilt the temple using the original beams, columns, and stones. The reconstruction was completed in 1914, and the original appearance has been preserved until today. Source: Taipei Tourism Website - Listening to the Stories of Temples
