The park is named Chiayi 100th Anniversary Park and has an area of about 268,000 square meters. The park abounds in ancient trees towering into the sky ,cool pavilions and verandas, artificial hills and fish ponds, and twisting paths leading to secluded spots . Owing to the use of natural hills and water , the park boasts elegant landscapes and is a place for leisure and recreation. The park houses a historical museum, the Shooting Sun Tower, Confucius Temple, monuments to Fu Kang'an and the earthquake victims . As a place with abundant and rare historical and cultural treasures , it presents distinctive cultures of multiple ethnic groups and dynasties. The park is a good place for recreation , sightseeing ,and a must for people who are interested in history and culture. Additionally , the forestry and agricultural experimental stations situated on the northeast of the park are also worth a visit.The park , built in 1910 during the Japanese rule , has a history of 400 years . During this period , Taiwan was ruled by different powers , and , located at a strategic spot , Chiayi ( or Zhuo Luo in old times ) was under the impact of different cultures . A lot of historical sites and materials remain inside the park , such as the remains of the altar of the Pingpu people ( one of the aborigines of Taiwan ) ,the fields constructed by the Dutch , a stone tablet with emperors'mandates written in Manchu and Chinese ,cannons of the navy ,the first earthquake monument across Taiwan , accessory buildings of Shinto shrines ,the steam locomotive made in America in early 19th century ,and the monument to soldiers martyrized on Jiangshan Island after the Kuomingtang government retreated to Taiwan . And all these can be found inside the Chiayi Park .
