The “three rails” refer to the High-Speed Rail, the Taiwan Railway, and the bicycle.
Start at Tanaka High-Speed Rail Station, follow the Babao irrigation canal, pedaling along the gurgling water beneath the dappled shade of Chinese parasol trees; in the next instant an endless panorama of Tanaka’s rice granary opens out, breeze carrying the scent of swaying rice.
Reach Ershui and the bike path hugs the railway; the rumble of trains becomes your soundtrack. “Train-chasing” is the local highlight, and you can also stroll the old street to admire its historic architecture.
The route is flat, the scenery ever-changing—perfect for a family outing to “seek the rice sea at the foot of the hills” on the Three-Rail Wind-Chase Ride.
