Hualien County Stone Carving Museum is the first museum in the nation devoted to stone carving. Renowned for its abundant stone production, Hualien possesses over 90% of the island's stone resources, earning its reputation as the "homeland of stones" and also becoming a crucial hub for national stone carving art creators. Hualien County Cultural Affairs Bureau promotes the unique artistry of Hualien by focusing on mineral resources and stone carving talents; it hosts a "Stone Carving Art Festival" biennially, attracting master stone carvers from around the world to gather here for exchange and competition, showcasing achievements in stone carving culture. The museum features various distinctive exhibition areas including the Collecting Area, Exhibition Planning Area, Modern Stone Carving Area, Traditional Stone Carving Area, and Audio-Visual Area. In addition to regularly displaying stone-related artifacts and materials, the museum periodically launches special exhibitions in collaboration with domestic and international stone carvers. The stone carvings exhibited in the museum represent collected masterpieces over many years of organizing the International Stone Carving Art Festival. Currently, the museum's large-scale stone artworks are not only on display open spaces within the Cultural Affairs Bureau park but also widely scattered across public spaces such as stations, scenic spots, major junctions, parks, and schools throughout the entire county. Visiting Hualien is thus like entering an "observant city of stone carving tourism."
