Lihou Mountain is located at the border of Xinpu Township, Zhubei City and Qionglin Township, Hsinchu County. It got its name because of its terrain that resembles the head of an ancient plow. It stretches east from Neili Village, Xinpu Township to the east side of the highway in Zhubei, in an east-west direction. It is the watershed of two major rivers in Hsinchu County, namely the Touqian River and the Fengshan River. The area south of the mountain belongs to the Touqian River, while the area north of the mountain belongs to the Fengshan River basin. The elevation is 156 meters. The south side has a steeper slope, while the north side is gentler.
In the past, Lihou Mountain was used for tea plantations. Although many have been abandoned, many old tea trees are still visible. The main trail and entrances are mostly paths that were used by local residents to go up the mountain for tea picking or farming.
In the 1970s, the agricultural industry declined, and tea plantations on the mountain were gradually abandoned. Many paths used for picking tea have been overgrown. Even the famous Yue Tao Wu ancient trail that was once used by traders to cross Lihou Mountain is no longer used. Lihou Mountain then became a desolate wilderness. Today, aside from one kilometer near the triangulation point in the west, which is still popular with hikers, the rest of the mountain is mostly uninhabited.
