Simplified Chinese Japanese English Korean Outside Village is located to the south of Xiyu Township and borders Nian Village to the north, providing a natural barrier that makes it less susceptible to northeast monsoon attacks. Outside Village is the most populous community in Xiyu Township; because its interior is small, houses are built in accordance with the terrain and constructed along the coast, giving it a magnificent and luxurious appearance that is highly distinctive. Due to its terrain, Outside Village is well suited for developing fisheries. Here the fishing port is large and there are many fishing boats (the village has the highest number of fishing boats in Penghu), making fishing the main livelihood for most residents. Outside Village's fishing port is a second‑class port, located near the strait’s migratory fishing grounds, and has strong fishing activity. In the 2011 Fisheries Administration “Top 10 Charming Fishing Ports of the Nation” selection, it was shortlisted in the category of Cultural Charm. During the day and night, it has entirely different styles and harbor imagery. Many residents here practice Taoism, and the Wengang Temple serves as the spiritual center of Outside Village, enshrining Wengang Wangye. Other deities worshiped there include the Five Imperial Lords: Zheng, Hu, Jiang, Ke, and Li. Nearby is the Buddhist Cihang Temple, whose main deity is Guanyin. Every year, Outside Village hosts the Lantern Festival of Lantern Fire, a lantern riddle guessing event, and a blessing pilgrimage. At night, boats gather at the fishing port, and at the auspicious moment, the fishing fires blaze; each lamp lights the night sky of Outside Village as brightly as day.
