Haiyue House is a four-storey building standing beside Shuchi Road, right above the Shengping Theater, occupying one of Jiufen’s most scenic spots. Backed by the mountain and facing the sea, it offers a high vantage point from which to admire many of Jiufen’s famous teahouses—Dream of the Stage, Golden Homeland, Amei Teahouse, Taro & Sweet Potato Teahouse, Little Shanghai Teahouse, Old Window, Jiuhu Teahouse, Shuixin Moon Teahouse, and more. From here you can look down on Shengping Theater and gaze out at Keelung Mountain, the ocean, and the mountainscape. The entire structure is finished in a rustic iron-gray that evokes local imagery and blends into the shifting seasonal seascape. Simple, unadorned straight and curved lines and extensive use of washed-granite work give it a distinctly Taiwanese flavor. Just inside the teahouse entrance, you’ll find Chinese-style curtains, wooden buckets brimming with fruit, and wine jars on the floor.
