The tea factory of the Tea Research and Extension Station, Yuchu Branch, is located southeast of Maolan Mountain in Yuchu Township. It was founded in the 11th year of the Shōwa era under Japanese rule (1936 CE), and the factory itself was built in the 13th year of Shōwa (1938 CE). Originally named the Black Tea Experimental Sub-station, it was affiliated with the Central Research Institute of the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office and served as the research center for large-leaf black tea in the province. After Taiwan’s retrocession in 1945, the Yuchu Black Tea Experimental Sub-station was placed under the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry. In December 1947 it was transferred to the Tea Branch of the Taiwan Land Development Corporation, and the following year was renamed the Taiwan Tea Research Institute. In April 1955 it came under the Taiwan Provincial Agricultural Research Institute as the Yuchu Tea Experimental Sub-station. In May 1968 it merged with the Pingzhen Tea Research Institute and the Tea Training Institute of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry to form the Taiwan Provincial Tea Research and Extension Station under the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, known as the Yuchu Branch. In July 1999 it became the Yuchu Branch of the Tea Research and Extension Station, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan.
