Zhi Shan Yan Hui Ji Temple

2024-04-11
台北市士林區至誠路1段326巷26號
At the foot of Huiji Temple, you can see a large open space resembling a grassland, with model sheep, as if the early settlers were herding here. Following the steps upwards, through the forest, there is a dim feeling. On the side of the rock walls, moss grows, giving it an ancient atmosphere. Along the way, there is a stone archway, a historical relic of Zhishan. After that, the path becomes much wider. After turning a corner, it suddenly opens up, with a flat road, completely different from the previous feeling. Huiji Temple is located here. When the people from Zhangzhou came to Shilin, they also brought their guardian deity, "Kai Zhang Sheng Wang." According to legend, Zhishan was originally the land of a rich man named Huang Shan. About two hundred years ago, his relative from the Pianhe County of Zhangzhou, Huang Qingcheng, brought the incense of Kai Zhang Sheng Wang to Taiwan and hung it on Zhishan. According to legend, there was a miracle, so people came together to raise money and built the Huiji Temple in 1752. Soon after, because of the worship of Guanyin, it was also called Zhishan Yan Temple. In 1840, the scholar and local gentry Pan Yongqing of Shilin built the Wenchang Temple on Zhishan Yan, and hired teachers to educate the children. In 1874, the three temples were merged together, and since then, they have been collectively called Huiji Temple. Now, when people come to Huiji Temple, they mostly pray for smooth exams. There is a Wenchang brush here. According to legend, if you touch the "Wenchang brush," you will be blessed, so parents often bring their children to touch the Wenchang brush, praying for smooth exams.
