Zhishan Park

2017-07-05
台北市士林區至誠路一段雨聲街
Located at the intersection of Zhicheng Road Section 1 and Yusheng Street in the Shilin District, nestled beside the Shuangxi River, it is a large natural park filled with green ecology and cultural heritage.
Its name originates from the time of the Kangxi period in the Qing Dynasty, when immigrants from Zhangzhou, Fujian settled in the areas of Dandong and Shilin. Because the terrain of the park is similar to the topography of Zhishan in Zhangzhou, Fujian, it was named accordingly. The park at least includes prehistoric cultures such as the Dadun-Keng culture, Zhishan Rock culture, Yuan Shan culture, and the Botanical Garden culture, as well as historical cultures from the Qing Dynasty, Japanese rule, and the Republic of China era, making it rich in cultural relics.

Within the park is the ancient temple "Huie Temple," built during the 17th year of the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and has now reached 260 years old. In 1979, it was designated as a third-grade cultural relic by the Ministry of the Interior. The main deity worshipped in the temple is the King of Zhangzhou. Because the park is a cultural relic that has been protected for a long time, many old trees remain in the park, such as the 300-year-old camphor tree next to the Yunan Reading Room, which is the treasure of the park. Moreover, the terrain and landforms of the park have created many natural landscapes due to long-term weathering, such as the Elephant Stone, the Wormhole, the Onion Stone, the Stone Elder, and the Snake and Frog Stone, all of which serve as rich geological teaching materials.
