Flag Ridge, also known as Wai Nanshijiao Mountain, stands 172 m above sea level. The section from Fuxing Elementary School to Yuantong Temple is called the Wai Nanshijiao Trail or Yuantong Temple Trail. At the summit there is a pavilion, the Flag Pavilion; the benchmark is right beside it, painted entirely red, and in the center of the small platform stands the marker. Many ridge-line trails nearby pass through here. Legend has it that in 1971, when Taiwan withdrew from the United Nations, a group of retired soldiers climbed this hill, raised the national flag, and built a hexagonal pavilion named the Flag Pavilion, hence the place is often called Flag Ridge.
