Grandma's House - Museum of Peace and Women's Human Rights
Introduction: A building over a century old, a human rights movement spanning 25 years, a place that gathers the power of women's lives
Introduction: Since 1992, the Women's Relief Foundation has conducted investigations on the "comfort women" from Taiwan and carried out claims for compensation against Japan. Over the past 25 years, we have accompanied and cared for the physical and mental well-being of the grandmothers, preserving 5,042 related audiovisual materials, books, and 730 cultural relics. After 12 years of preparation and efforts, it was officially opened on March 8, 2016, and officially established "Grandma's House: Museum of Peace and Women's Human Rights" on December 10, collecting the life stories of 59 "comfort women" grandmothers in Taiwan after going through hardships. It is the first museum in Taiwan based on the "comfort women" human rights movement, integrating the display of contemporary women's human rights issues and women's empowerment, serving as a multi-functional social education base.
"Grandma's House" records history, continues to pay attention to contemporary women's human rights, and hopes to transcend the trauma of life, inspire the power to move forward, and turn historical wounds into the cornerstone of peace, to realize a future of respect, equality, and no violence.
