Sanbao God Items was established in 1987, operated by Mr. Ma Jun'an, his wife, and Mr. Wu Shibing. Originally, "Sanbao" was engaged in the wholesale and retail of god items, supplying temples, palaces, and Buddhist shops in Taipei. In 2000, it transformed into a retail store, but the business did not meet expectations, and it could only barely sustain itself.
2014 was a crisis year for Sanbao, but also a turning point. That year, a fire broke out in the store, and most of the products were almost blackened or destroyed. In desperation, Mr. and Mrs. Ma decided to take this opportunity to redecorate the store and rearrange the displays. They abandoned the traditional approach of piling up cardboard boxes and showing goods through catalogs, and instead adopted the display method of department stores, neatly arranging Buddhist items. This not only made the products clearly visible, but also provided customers with a more comfortable shopping environment. Mr. Ma also used handcrafted customizations, embedding dazzling Swarovski crystals on the official hats of Buddha statues, giving the products a luxury feel without losing their traditional essence. In addition, his daughter used her creativity to combine old and new, painting English words on the palace lanterns, adding an international touch, and attracting many tourists to buy products at the store. Some even specifically requested to have auspicious blessings painted on the palace lanterns as souvenirs. After overcoming the crisis, Sanbao became a department store in the god items industry, reaching a new peak of success.
