The Fengyuan Bridge in the Taroko Gorge National Scenic Area's coastal loop road, situated at the coastal waters near the Qingzhou Recreation Area, was completed and opened to traffic in March 2011 as Taiwan's first movable bridge designed to accommodate sailboat access. In the future, alongside the development of a BOT yacht harbor, large sailing yachts will be able to enter and exit, fostering the growth of international-class yacht activities and maritime recreation. The bridge will also integrate with the Kaohsiung Love River Pier to form a "Golden Triangle" of yacht tourism activities.
The Fengyuan Bridge spans 579 meters in total length, 30 meters in width, and 71 meters from the water surface to the height of the main tower. At its highest point of 17 meters above the water (approximately 70 meters of water span), it has a movable span of 20 meters to accommodate various recreational vessels. Adopting a unique asymmetrical three-dimensional design featuring a single tower and a single-sided composite cable-stayed structure (distinct from conventional planar bridges), the bridge's appearance from the front resembles an eagle holding an object, from the side appears like a bending girl, and from the back resembles the English letter "A." The movable deck opens to a 75-degree angle within two minutes, and a bridge-opening spectacle is held every Saturday afternoon at 5 PM for public viewing. At night, the bridge enhances its aesthetic appeal through lighting, serving as both a landmark and a navigational aid for marine work and recreational vessels.
