Built in 1901 (27th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign), during the period of Japanese rule in Taiwan, the Japanese were actively trying to eliminate traditional Chinese culture. Local patriotic scholars then established the Yu Heng Temple as a cover and set up the Xiangshan Hanlin Academy, and also enshrined the spirit tablet of Confucius. In 1974, local gentry suggested a reconstruction and separation of the temple from the academy. Xiangshan Confucius Temple is located on a high slope, overlooking the plain and green fields of the Miaoli Basin. The vision is broad, and the momentum is magnificent.
