Crossing Time and Space, Remembering the Treasure of Baicheng - Fun Interactive Experience Through the City Gate

Xi Men, also known as Baicheng Gate, means "treasure achieved." The gate is a magnificent double-story building with upturned eaves and swallow-tail-shaped ridges, but it was destroyed during the early period of Japanese rule. Therefore, to fill the historical gap of the five major city gates in Taipei for about a century, the "Xi Men Impression" installation was set up at the No. 4 exit of Xi Men MRT station during the 130th anniversary celebration of Taipei's establishment in 2014, re-creating the image of the old Xi Men.

"Xi Men Impression" takes the original image of Xi Men as its visual creative source, using geometric segmentation and recombination to design the gate. By using different heights of framework and materials and colors, it presents the former magnificence of Xi Men, symbolizing the junction between traditional and modern times, guiding the public to understand the re-creation and impression of Xi Men.

The image of the gate is the main source of visual creativity, providing 360-degree light that allows people to cross through the gate. By moving, people can feel the unique city light and interactive fun, breaking the concept of framework, making art closer to daily life.

In addition, the red brick and gray color scheme enhances the image of the city wall, and the ground is paved with kiln-fired granite bricks, echoing the texture of the stone wall of the gate. The acrylic lampshade installation provides a source of light energy at night, and specially designed rest seats are provided for pedestrians to take shade and rest. Located at the bustling area of Xi Men MRT station, it faces the No. 6 exit with light images, using transparent devices and interactive situations between pedestrians, hoping to promote the prosperity of commerce in the Xi Men commercial area and expand the image of the luxurious and prosperous West District.
