Chifan Kiln is located on a small hill in Xinshe, established in 1993, and is undoubtedly one of the well-known attractions in Xinshe. Chifan Kiln is a large kiln factory that operates in mold making, glaze production, firing, educational activities, and more, with ceramic engraving being its main creative focus. Zhang Kafu founded the Taiwan Ceramic Engraving Association in 1995 and served as its founding chairman. The association is based at Chifan Kiln, bringing together many artists to promote art, cultivate new generations of artistic creators, and integrate art into daily life. The kiln has organized numerous cultural and artistic events in central Taiwan and regularly holds exhibitions at cultural centers. Many people wonder about the origin of the name "Chifan Kiln." The name is derived from the phrase "pursuing seven parts of intoxication and three parts of life," reflecting our attitude toward life: "Why not be intoxicated by life? Understanding life deeply leads to being intoxicated by it." Zhang Kafu's inscription "Drunken Immortal" has moved many people, and we operate with the philosophy of "pursuing seven parts and treating guests with eight parts." Zhang Kafu and his wife, Li Chunmei, are passionate about ceramic art and have explored various other art forms, including oil painting, traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, and more. Art education and promotion are central to their lives. Visiting Chifan Kiln, you can appreciate ceramics, engage in ceramic activities, or simply relax. The extensive facilities include over 200 ping of ceramic art exhibition space, over 400 ping of hands-on activity areas, and thousands of ping of leisure space. These expansive grounds allow visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy a serene environment. The Zhang Kafu Art Museum regularly showcases works by local painters and calligraphers. After the 921 Earthquake, the kiln underwent reconstruction. Zhang Kafu and his wife, with unwavering determination, spent a year and a half rebuilding and further developing the site, adding new features such as a herb garden and a plant teaching area. The combination of ceramic art, calligraphy, and meticulously planned landscaping, along with the couple's dedication and seriousness, deeply moves all who visit.
