In Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, there is a lesser-known secret destination located upstream of the Penglai Stream, which is the 42nd Ping Ecological Trail. The entire trail is lined with lush green trees, gentle streams, and the sounds of insects and birds. You can even see fish swimming underwater. Despite its serene atmosphere, the trail is full of life and offers numerous spots for fish-watching. The trail consists of wooden boardwalks and stone-paved paths with a gentle slope, stretching approximately 400 meters and taking around 20 minutes to complete. The easy-to-walk path is suitable for people of all ages, making it an ideal destination for families with elderly or young children, especially during the summer months to escape the heat. At the end of the 42nd Ping Trail lies a natural spring pool, which is one of the area's distinctive attractions. The spring water maintains a temperature of around 18°C throughout the year. The clear and cold water flows out from the stone seams, providing a refreshing and cooling experience in the summer, while in the winter, the misty atmosphere creates an otherworldly ambiance. The pool is windless, and its surface remains almost still, like a lake. The water quality is crystal clear, allowing you to see the bottom. Native fish species such as tilapia and Taiwanese stoneflies swim in the pool, and you can even see the pool's gravel and aquatic plants clearly. On hot days, you can take off your shoes and soak your feet in the shallower parts of the pool, feeling the invigorating coolness. The pool and the surrounding trail are surrounded by lush vegetation, with dominant tree species like oak and fir. The reflections of trees and shrubs in the still water create a landscape painting-like scenery. In the summer, you can witness the blooming of flowers and the dancing of fireflies, adding vitality to this serene atmosphere.
