Matsu's Jurong Township was previously known as BaiKen. "Ken" is the dialectal Hokkien transliteration of "dog", and it was also called BaiQuan. The two islands resemble two dogs lying flat on the sea surface, so the eastern island was named East Dog Island, and the western one was named West Dog Island. In 1971, the name was changed to Jurong. The new name symbolizes "remembering JU", a historical expression derived from the story of Crown Prince Ju who practiced humility in the small state of Ju during the Spring and Autumn Period. These islands were rebranded as East Jurong and West Jurong. The Jurong Visitor Center is situated near the Fuzheng settlement on East Jurong. The visitor center features the architectural style of the Min Dong region, seamlessly blending with the surrounding lighthouse and stone houses nearby, forming a notable structure with a pleasant holiday resort atmosphere. With a prime location facing the sea and mountains offering unobstructed views, resting and reading travel materials at the center is itself a delight. Inside the visitor center, you can not only watch introduction videos but also obtain relevant tourism information. Next to the center lies the Fuzheng Blue Tears Station, where visitors can enjoy distinctive seafood delicacies like canned sea snails and red fermented rice chicken. If you have the chance to visit Jurong, don't miss this stop!
