National Taiwan University Hospital was founded during the period of Japanese rule. It was originally known as Taipei Hospital, Taiwan Governor-General's Office Taipei Hospital, and Taihoku Imperial University Medical Department Affiliated Hospital. After the war, it was renamed as National Taiwan University Medical College Affiliated Hospital. It is the core of Taiwan's modern medical development. The building on the west campus is currently used for outpatient services and some wards. This building was designed by Mr. Konō Jūrō, a two-story red brick reinforced concrete building in the Renaissance style. The layout is symmetrical, with a central corridor running through it, connecting various outpatient departments and wards. The spacious hall with a sense of grandeur incorporates many Western architectural techniques and is a masterpiece of modern Western-style architecture. At the time, it was the largest and most modern hospital in Southeast Asia.
