A hundred years of tradition‧Traditional Chinese medicine formulas; in the past, people would generally take traditional Chinese medicine when they were sick, and as the saying goes, "good medicine tastes bitter." In order to help sick children swallow the bitter medicine, traditional Chinese medicine shops would also make sweet treats to accompany the medicine, such as licorice powder, hawthorn cakes, and plum cakes. Over time, these traditional and carefully crafted salty, sour, and sweet treats gained popularity among the locals. Therefore, "Yi Sheng Xing" also started making "candied fruits" (蜜餞) as a side business.
Using fresh fruits and self-developed traditional Chinese medicine formulas, the candied fruits from "Yi Sheng Xing" are not only made using traditional methods but are also carefully crafted. They are hygienic, healthy, and have a unique taste.
Since Mr. Yang Lao-shou founded the business in 1882, the company has been through the late Qing dynasty, Japanese rule, and Taiwan's post-war period, and has now been in operation for over a hundred years. Currently, "Yi Sheng Tang Chinese and Western Pharmacy" on Yanping Old Street is still operated by Mr. Yang Zhen-xi, the third generation of the family. The third son of the fourth generation opened "Yi Sheng Xing Candied Fruits" across the street from "Yi Sheng Tang Chinese and Western Pharmacy" to sell traditional candied fruits made with the family's century-old traditional Chinese medicine formulas.
