Pingxi Old Street is not like Jiufen, Shenkeng, Yingge, or Sanxia Old Street, where you can shop, buy, and eat all year round, whether it's a regular day or a holiday. It has a simple, old-fashioned atmosphere, with traditional houses built in order along the sloping hillsides and beside the railway tracks. Most of the local shops are traditional fruit and snack stores, hardware stores, and small food stalls, reflecting the simple and plain lifestyle of the local residents. Since the mining industry gradually declined, the old street has become quiet. Occasionally, a few dogs or cats pass by, or elderly local residents slowly stroll on the street, chatting leisurely with acquaintances. This is the usual scenery of the old street, filled with a sense of leisure and charm. Pingxi is a hidden paradise not far from the Taipei city area, where you can practice the lifestyle of "slow living" and "taking it slow." Every time the Pingxi train passes over the old street, it makes a loud roaring sound. The famous advertisement "Miss Zhang Junya" was filmed on this old street with a railway track passing through it. The railway, mountain forest, birds, and flowers, as well as the old mining relics, are all great places to visit. The air-raid shelters and the Baixian Cave at Guanyin Rock, left over from the Japanese colonial period, are also great places for tourists to explore.
