Ji Guang Street is one of the early commercial streets in Taichung City. The area was known as "Rongcheng" during the Japanese colonial period. Before the recovery of Taiwan, the street was primarily home to businesses catering to daily needs, such as fabric shops, restaurants, watch shops, and general merchandise stores. From the Japanese colonial period to the early days of liberation, it was one of the busiest streets in Taichung City.
Originally, Ji Guang Street was one of the thematic commercial streets in the central commercial district of Taichung City, forming a commercial activity block with Ji Guang Street, Luchuan West Street, Taiwan Boulevard, and the surrounding Freedom Road shopping district. The Ji Guang Pedestrian Walkway Street Improvement Project has now been completed. Its main goal is to connect Ji Guang Street with surrounding areas such as the railway station, Zhongshan Park, Electronics Street, and Luchuan West-East Street, continuing the newly created streetcape. The project also aims to optimize the overall environment and integrate the neighborhood to improve shopping comfort and commercial attractiveness.
Ji Guang Street was once the most prosperous shopping district and a memory for the older generation of Taichung residents. With the passage of time, it has evolved into a diverse range of businesses, showcasing the vibrant vitality of the area. Another distinctive feature is its food, offering a variety of cuisines that satisfy your taste buds and provide a fulfilling experience of dining, entertainment, and leisure.
