"Village Chief's Garden Coffee" is a garden restaurant that combines coffee with traditional cuisine crafted by Tiamama, the local matriarch. The coffee used in our dishes is grown on coffee plants cultivated by Chen Shui-lian, a previous village head of Gaoyuan Village, who grows them naturally without pesticides at altitudes between 600 and 800 meters.
Our signature "Healthy Coffee Chicken Soup" is made by simmering ground coffee beans and Chinese herbs for four hours to form the broth base. It is then cooked together with carefully selected free-range country chickens, known for their tender meat that remains intact even after prolonged cooking. The soup contains no MSG or salt, yet its unique flavor becomes increasingly sweet the longer it simmer, making it the restaurant's most beloved dish. According to the village chief, coffee from Dongshan naturally boasts high aftertaste sweetness and low caffeine content, which explains the deliciously mellow flavor profile and ensures guests won't experience heart palpitations or insomnia from consuming it!
"Organic Ginseng Health Chicken Soup" is another excellent nourishment option for autumn and winter. It features wild ginseng freshly harvested from the hills behind the restaurant, slow-cooked together with herbal ingredients. The broth exudes a natural, fragrant aroma, creating a delicacy only available to those immersed in mountainous nature.
Chen, the village chief who initiated the coffee promotion classes through the local agricultural association, has passionately grown coffee since the late 1990s. In 2002, he joined the Council of Agriculture's "New Rural Landscape" program and then formed a cooperative association with farmers in Li Zaiyuan village to expand coffee cultivation. Collaborating with city government-organized coffee festivals, he has successfully promoted Dongshan coffee over the years. Currently, the village has cultivated over 100 hectares of coffee farms. After enjoying the restaurant's meals, visitors may explore the 0.3-hectare coffee garden near the "Heavenly Pool" at the village chief's farm and pick fresh, crimson coffee beans to savor their rich aroma.
