After the 2009 Morakot typhoon disaster, Shinling became a key site for rebuilding homes. The Tzu Chi Park includes facilities such as a church, workshop, Hope Square, Indigenous Culture Park, and Tzu Chi Elementary School, but the most precious aspect is the unique "house vocabulary" formed by residents according to their tribal legends, totems, and preferences for colors and designs. Bunun tribe houses display vibrant rhombuses and sun-and-moon totems, while Rukai and Paiwan tribe houses are adorned with Bai Bu She (hundred-step snake) and lilies—totems representing entire tribal legends and memories. If spring couplets are seen, they signify a Han Chinese family. The "Tsaolin Area," home to Tsaolin Village survivors, is connected by the Lion’s Bridge donated by the Lions Club; a few bamboo groves have become crucial memories of the original Tsaolin village.
