In the sixth year of Tongzhi (1867 AD), Lian Yuqiao's descendant Lian Xuchun went to Fuzhou to take the imperial examination and was ranked as a jinshi of the Bingzi class, becoming the first jinshi in the Shuangxi area. As a result, his residence was respectfully referred to as the "Juren House". Liu Mingdeng, the imperial envoy appointed by the Qing court to inspect the Kavalan area, even visited Lian Xuchun specially when he passed by Shuangxi.
The Lian Juren ancient house is a traditional three-section compound, with a "Wen Kui" plaque hanging above the main hall door, which was erected by Fujian Governor Ding Richang in 1875. The left and right side doors are engraved with the phrases "Chu Zhong" and "Ru Xiao". A jinshi refers to someone who has passed the palace examination after participating in the provincial examination, also known as a "Da Hui Zhuan" or "Da Chun Yuan", commonly referred to as "Lao Ye".
