Located along Zhonghua Road in Taichung’s Central District, Zhonghua Road Night Market is one of the city’s earliest famous night markets; it has existed for more than 40 years. During the 1960s and 1970s it was one of Taichung’s liveliest commercial districts, and after economic ups and downs and the relocation of the municipal center it was transformed into the Zhonghua Road Tourist Night Market. Most of the food stalls open from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m., gathering Taiwanese snacks from north to south alongside international cuisines. Well-known bites include the signature raw oysters and various congee dishes from Zhiwei Stall, Tanzi stinky tofu, Chenji Herbal Tea Shop, A-Shuishi Noodle Stand, Milk King fresh milk and plum-juice stands, plus the celebrated Singapore bak kut teh—another longtime favorite. After half a century, the market has evolved into a tourist night bazaar blending tradition and modernity, preserving classic flavors while introducing new-style vendors moving toward greater refinement. Compared with younger, trendier night markets, Zhonghua emphasizes heritage; its unique historical atmosphere lets visitors savor rich Taichung culture and nostalgic charm.
