台東縣綠島鄉柴口61號
Green Island has two main snorkeling areas, namely Chai Kou and Shi Lang. Chai Kou is not only particularly suitable for beginners to experience snorkeling but also an excellent snorkeling area when strong southwest winds blow onto Green Island between June and August, as it lies on the sheltered side. Chai Kou is renowned for its spectacular stony coral landscapes, with seawater depths varying to create a sense of layers, offering snorkelers a delightful view of the underwater scenery. The nearshore tidal zone between the shallow waters and large reefs in Chai Kou's snorkeling area features diverse marine terrain with numerous underwater reefs. Near the shoreline and between the large reefs, there is a reef platform terrain, mainly covered with stony corals such as massive and encrusting coral colonies. After snorkeling, walking along the shore trail to observe intertidal zone organisms up close allows visitors to find traces of seaweed, sea urchins, and starfish. Early Han Chinese settlers on Green Island once engaged in conflicts with the island's indigenous inhabitants. The two groups constructed wooden walls facing each other at this location, which was originally called "Shan Kou." Later, due to local development and construction, the name was changed to "Chai Kou." The northern coastline between Gongguan and Chai Kou, including Zhongliao, is the broadest coastal plain area on Green Island. The terrain remains primarily coral reef-based, with Chai Kou and Zhongliao being the optimal areas for sand ridge formation in Green Island. These two regions are also the only two beaches on the island.
