The quiet spot in the bustling area is the Fan Sheng Ma (媽斗六新興宮) located in the eastern market district. It is dedicated to Matsu and the Great Emperor Shennong. The site was formerly known as Fan Sheng, the traditional territory of the Pingpu Hoanya people. Thus, Matsu in this shrine is also called Fan Sheng Ma. Historical records indicate that during the Daoguang era, Shen Changsheng advocated its reconstruction, and it was again renovated during the Xianfeng period.
