Dongpu is a Bunun village famed for its hot springs and mountain vistas, set along the Chenyoulan River at the start of the Batongguan Historic Trail. The mildly alkaline carbonated spring water has a pH of 7.7 and a temperature of about 53 °C. Crystal-clear, it gushes naturally from crevices and gravel beds in the valley, sending up clouds of steam before being channeled to hotels and inns for guests to enjoy. Local lore credits the water with beauty-enhancing properties, drawing groups of appearance-conscious women year-round. The area now offers a rich menu of soaking options—health hydrotherapy, spa facilities, beauty baths, sauna rooms, open-air cave pools, carbonated steam baths, jet massages, aerobic hot-spring pools, cypress-barrel baths scented with essential oils—something for every taste.
Nearby attractions are equally rewarding: the Batongguan Trail, Father-and-Son Cliff, Yunlong Waterfall, and other spectacular sights. Meals cooked with spring water, indigenous Bunun dishes, and plump trout raised in the pristine Shalixian Creek are Dongpu delicacies not to be missed. In winter, auspicious snow caps the peaks; on clear days the snow-crowned summit of Yushan can be seen from the pools, making a soak here the ultimate alpine indulgence.
Dongpu Hot Spring: mildly alkaline, ~53 °C, crystal-clear water rising naturally from valley fissures and rock strata in clouds of steam, then piped to every hotel for guests to enjoy.
