The Zi Dong Community is located in the Dongshi Village of Pingxi District, belonging to the tea garden type in the rural landscape of northern Taiwan. Due to its location in a mountain valley with limited arable land, but rich forest resources and abundant water sources, it has rich and diverse ecological resources. Additionally, the stone traditional houses in the community are well-preserved, becoming an important characteristic resource. The community also features the "Qian Cen Kong Ancient Trail" with cultural and historical significance, the "Dongshi Ecological Education Center" offering flavored meals and environmental education, and the "Chen Jia Shan Ju" and "Deng Shan Rong Zhuang" providing handmade farm products and experiences. Visitors can explore the ancient trails, visit farmhouses, and get close to nature. [Pingxi District Farmers' Association Dongshi Ecological Education Center] The Dongshi Branch of Pingxi Elementary School is situated in the traditional agricultural area of Dongshi Village, Pingxi District, surrounded by mountains and lush greenery, making it an "inland school" filled with the scent of tea. The center provides venue services, flavored meals, agricultural experiences, and environmental education. [Chen Jia Shan Ju] Located in the Huo Shao Liao settlement, coal mining began during the Japanese colonial era and ceased in 1971. The site still retains three mining tunnels. The Stone Ancient Well is a natural, massive pot-shaped terrain formed by stream erosion. The owner of Chen Jia Shan Ju, Lan Sister, has a strong and resilient spirit, maintaining the mountain farm for years and possessing excellent culinary skills, making her a cooking expert in the community. Visitors can experience the fun of picking fresh vegetables and making handmade pumpkin cakes and zongzi. [Deng Shan Rong Zhuang] Located in the Fan Zi Kong settlement, this is the intersection of Pingxi and Pinglin. The tea garden scenery can be fully appreciated here. The owner, Gao Deng Shan, is the pioneer who returned to Fan Zi Kong in 1996 to restore the ancient house. At the same time, Gao Ming Fu was elevated to the status of grandfather, and to commemorate Gao Deng Shan's pioneering spirit and pass it down to his grandson Gao Rong Qian, the name "Deng Shan Rong Zhuang" was given. The story of filial piety will be forever passed down. The turmeric and vegetables planted in Deng Shan Rong Zhuang are all cultivated using natural methods, aiming to provide safe and healthy produce to visitors. The Pingxi Farmers' Association provides guidelines for firefly watching: 1. Many places in Pingxi District offer firefly watching opportunities. Wear light, comfortable, and nature-colored clothing, and long-sleeved shirts and pants to avoid mosquito bites. Those who are afraid of mosquitoes can apply insect repellent. 2. Wear rain shoes or cloth shoes, and avoid wearing sandals or slippers to prevent snake bites. Avoid entering grasslands where venomous snakes may be present, and watch your step to avoid tromping on frogs or snakes. 3. When watching fireflies, remind yourself not to startle the wild animals, and never chase any wild animals, allowing them to forage and rest freely.
