Zhu Yigui, the Duck Mother King, could be said to be the most famous figure in Neimen. During the Qing dynasty he migrated to Taiwan and led a rebellion with 52 righteous men, sparking the most sensational anti-Qing and restoration of Ming dynasty movement in Taiwan, and declared himself emperor. Later due to internal conflict, he was finally captured and killed by Qing forces. However, Zhu Yigui's heroic image has deeply rooted in people's hearts; accordingly, the local people in Neimen District built temples in his honor—the Duck Mother Shrine and Xing'an Palace were planned together. In front of the temple courtyard can be seen a well, where he drank and raised ducks at that time. It is said that using the well's water to brew tea or to cook duck eggs yields particularly sweet and tender flavors.
