台東縣台東市吉林路一段231巷4號
The Fufeng community is situated in a narrow strip between the Stone Mountain and the Pianan River at the outskirts of Taitung City. Because of its location at the foot of the Stone Mountain, it is also known as the Shishan tribe. The Shishan tribe is the Fufeng community; they refer to the same place, located between the southern end of the Coastal Range and the Pianan River, adjacent to the Air Force Ji-Hang Base behind it. Originally, the tribe resided in the current Ji-Hang Base area, but due to the construction of this military base, they were relocated. During the Japanese colonial period, it was called "Shishan," renamed "Shichuan" in 1946, followed later by monikers such as "Shishan New Village," and now the Fufeng Community. The origin of the name stems from the rainwater in this Stone Mountain area scattering freely and flowing downstream, where it commonly carries stones of various sizes. Hence, the riverbed is strewn with pebbles, a phenomenon similarly noted in the Shichuan Stream flowing through the Shichuan village cluster. Within the Shishan tribe lies the Meihua Mountain Workshop, where Huang Meihua, the workshop’s manager, is acclaimed as the Louis Vuitton master of indigenous weaving. Visitors can not only appreciate exquisite textile artworks there but also participate hands-on via DIY weaving experiences to unleash their creativity. Additionally, there is Wu Dingbao, a local youth with experience in three-dimensional woodcarving at SanYi, who has returned to his tribe and employed Han Chinese carving techniques to create exceptional works from driftwood. Now, if you pass by outside the Shishan tribe, you can see many towering wooden sculptures erected there, which have become the tribe's most effective promotional attractions.
