The volcanic regions in eastern Taiwan and its outlying islands form the northern extension of the Luzon Volcanic Arc. Volcanic activity has created diverse and extensive landscapes along the eastern coast, including the various igneous rock landforms of Green Island and Orchid Island, as well as the andesite columnar joints at Ushi-Bi, all of which are highly valuable geological educational materials. The Dafengfeng Volcanic Neck, an exceptionally significant volcanic landform along the eastern coast, is located on the eastern shoreline of Zhangyuan Village, between Hualien County and Taitung County, and is currently managed by Taitung County. Closer to the land, two major rock blocks stand prominently: one is breccia, and the other is basalt with fan-shaped columnar joints locally known as "Datian Shi," forming a typical volcanic neck dome with columnar structures. Near the shoreline, a smaller wave-cut platform is formed by prolonged marine erosion of igneous rocks. The structural completeness of the Dafengfeng Volcanic Neck is remarkable, featuring unique tower-like columnar joints resembling a pleated skirt, similar to those seen at Yuanbei Island in Penghu. This is a distinctive volcanic landscape shaped by volcanic activity.
