One of Chiayi County’s most famous landscape parks is the first waterfront park along the Puzih Creek. The waterfront park is located beside Provincial Highway 3 on the Zhuqi Bridge, adjacent to the banks of Puzih Creek, covering nearly 4 hectares. The park offers a rich array of ecosystems, scenery, and recreational facilities. The bamboo zone boasts more than 80 rare bamboo species from both domestic and international sources, unique nationwide. Zhuqi Waterfront Park is planned with an arts plaza, waterfront activity zone, multipurpose lawn, creekside trail, pebble play area, stepped plaza, shaded walking area, and more. Vehicles are prohibited inside the park, allowing visitors to enjoy leisure without the disturbance of traffic. This multifunctional waterfront park not only lets people get close to Puzih Creek but also offers activities such as water viewing, fishing, birdwatching, scenic strolling, running, disc throwing, kite flying, and bocce. A static display showcases the old locomotive No. 32 of the Forest Railway, making it suitable for families of all ages. At the park entrance, more than ten “māo fēng líng” (moss bells) trees are planted. This tropical plant, native to Central and South America and also called “I‑bei tree” or “yellow‑flower bell tree,” is so named because its blossoms, when in full bloom, resemble a brilliant sunshine. Every March, when spring arrives, the leaves of these trees fall away to reveal the bright yellow flowers, creating a stunning spectacle that often draws the attention of passersby, making it a striking marker of spring. After the moss bells burst into bloom, it coincides with the start of the Alishan cherry blossom season. From mid‑March to mid‑April, Alishan’s “Jiyō cherry,” “Yae cherry,” “Peony cherry,” “Fu‑guo cherry,” and “Kanzō cherry” all bloom, turning Alishan into a dreamy, fantastical landscape. Alongside these, there are also Morii rhododendron, camellia, Gaultheria, and one‑leaf orchid flowers that complement the scenery. Visitors can plan one‑day or multi‑day trips to fully experience the vibrant spring of Chiayi and the beauty of Alishan.
