Xinwu's "Shihu" stone fish trap complex was formed by early Han settlers who arrived in Taiwan and built manual stone fish traps along the coastline using locally sourced boulders and by hand. These structures utilized the tidal differential to trap schools of fish. Abundant marine life, including mollusks, oysters, shrimp, crabs, and other tidal zone species, frequently appears on the stone embankments, making it a rare example of stone fish traps found on Taiwan's main island. This site not only preserves rich cultural heritage but also offers an excellent opportunity to observe coastal ecosystems.
