Longxing Suspension Bridge has existed for a hundred years. In its early days it was a simple bamboo footbridge; during the Japanese colonial period it was the only route villagers used to transport sugarcane. After twice being washed away by floods, the current steel-cable suspension bridge was built slightly upstream from the original site. Designed and contracted by the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, it is Asia’s first open-mesh suspension bridge, 165 meters long and of great commemorative and tourist value.
