The First Guesthouse is located near the Guanyin Pavilion in Mawei City, Penghu, and was built by the Japanese army during the Japanese occupation. It served as the residence of Mr. Chiang Kai‑shek in Penghu. On May 17, 1949 (the 38th year of the Republic), President Chiang first stayed there. After the National Government relocated to Taiwan, President Chiang, President Chiang En‑guo, and President Li Deng‑hui all visited Penghu and stayed at this place many times. The First Guesthouse is a Japanese-style building with a load‑bearing wall structure, wooden trusses, and a cultural tile roof. Because it has been maintained by the military for a long time and rarely opened to the public, it remains in excellent condition. The building combines Japanese and Western construction techniques; the outer walls are constructed of granite stone, and the courtyard is planted with many trees and shrubs, with walkways laid out. There is also a very large lawn plaza. During the “823” artillery battle, this place became the front line of the war, and the First Guesthouse became the center of combat command. The First Guesthouse also served as a combat command post and is the only surviving residence among the preserved ones that has strategic facilities; it is fully equipped and has abundant cultural, historical, and military significance, making it highly valuable for preservation. On December 10, 1998, the county government announced it as a designated historic site of Penghu County to this day. **Suggested visit duration:** Exterior viewing 0.5 hours
